Inspired by Boston dynamics and the robot dog for BF 2042 (booo) I wanted to create a Sy-Fy enemy for my college RTS game that resembled a dog in it's structural anatomy but had a distinctly war-fare purpose along with some alien like designs. Personally I'm very happy with how it actually functions in it's animations even if they're slightly janky (first time animating) although as time went on I decided to cut it from the game as I felt it wasn't strictly "alien" enough to be an enemy in my game!
I may re-purpose it for another project in the future or even change it's textures around to be better suited for the player faction instead but as of now it sits in purgatory, which is a shame because I feel like it's a decent enough design to be featured in a future project of mine!
THINGS ID CHANGE
I would certainly add significant details to the legs, adding wires and an out-cropping of panels or bolts as right now it feels a little too simple and I would consider adding something slightly reminiscent of red angry eyes either on the hull or turret, I feel like this would add a much needed intimidation factor to the model as right now it feels a little too benign in it's intentions when you look at it when it should feel scary/unsettling as it comes toward your units.
I would definitely go back and re-do the animation, admittedly it was my first but since this model I have animated at least 6 others and I have learned a lot more about the process and feel I could apply that knowledge to this one and create something smoother, more convincing and ultimately better.
SUMMARY
A decent start to what could become one of my better models, it harbors a lot of the in-efficiencies from my more early models but was definitely responsible for improvements I made to my methods later on. Overall It's a pretty important piece to me so I'm a little sad it didn't make it into my college project in the end as I think it could've provided some impressive visual animations to get a wow from my peers. It was cut from the game due to inappropriate design for it's assigned faction although I believe it may have a place in a future project and I aim now to work towards improving the overall design so I can finally bring it to life.
